As I sat in the theater watching The Hobbit I kept wondering when the dragon comes in. I knew that was the end, but it seemed like it had been an eternity and he still hadn’t shown! The previous Lord Of the Rings movies had been a little long for my taste as well, but I think not knowing that this film was being split into a three parter made it harder for me to enjoy it. Mostly because I was constantly wondering when it was going to end.
Overall, it was a good movie despite being a bit slow. I think it would be even more enjoyable if you were previously acquainted with the book. My two teenage cousins that went with me loved it, and can’t wait for the next parts to come out.
It was fun to see some of the characters from the old films pop up again, but it really made me think about how old some of these actors must be now. There must have been some more CG involved in making some of them look the right age again.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is a sign that the next two films will be good as well.
So, as you go to watch The Hobbit remember this is part one, this takes place before the trilogy, and be prepared for an almost three hours in the theater.
